Why do I need leg when I have wings.
-wrote Frida Kahlo in her diary. She got polio as a child. Then she had serious bus accident. And after complications, she did have her right leg amputed below the knee. However, this didn’t stop her to living life to the fullest and becoming the greatest Mexican artist.
Today at night I am Frida. Amazon parrots – multi-colored rebels are next to me. I flow like a Araguaia river in the middle of samba.
Today at night I want to be Frida. Herons on my dress rise their beaks above the darkness. The orange heliconias shine. Alought the column inside me is crumbling.
Today at night, shatters hurt. I could close the door. But, I am going to the city. The rain won’t weigh my wings.
My friend Angela always reminds me of Frida Kahlo. She celebrates her birthday every year in the style of Mexican carnival and she hangs a portrait of Frida Kahlo in the central place.
Angela always draws me towards colours and dance. Sometimes I hesitate, because it’s raining, I feel sad or tired. However, when I abandon my fears and black thoughts and dare, I become Frida. Suddenly, I choose in a Polish colourful shop Medicine, beautiful dress. You can still find there artistic, multi-colored and terapeutic clothes.
When I was looking for a special gift, I discovered Casa Mexico in Dublin North. This is the art gallery, a shop and a small café at the same time. It is run by a Mexican woman who used to work at the Frida Kahlo Museum in the capital of Mexico.

Making my husband cocoa straight from Mexico and in Mexican style, meaning with cinnamon, chili, sweet cream and sugar, she tells us her story in Spanish. And I find among the handmade earrings with a Frida Kahlo heart.

Casa Mexico is a truly unique place promoting Mexican culture in the rather grey Dublin’s Northside. Although the place is small and looks inconspicuously, it hosts exhibitions and even culinary workshops. You can buy hand-made jewelry and other artistic stuff or food straight from Mexico. And sometimes you can find traditional Mexican music live.
I have already mentioned on my blog that I really appreciate the diversity of cultures among which I can live every day. Thanks to this, I get to know the world better and amazing people. And at the same time, I break through, open up, listen, change my stereotypes to live fully on our shared planet.
*At the begining there is a poem “Frida Kahlo Wings” wich I wrote. And I dedicate it to Angela.
